Stabilimage Films provided the specialist gimbal system and technical operating solution for the ambitious Regent Street dance sequence in Better Man, working with cinematographer Erik Wilson BSC and the camera, grip and VFX teams.

Shot on an ARRI LF and operated remotely using DJI Master Wheels, the DJI Ronin 2 was extensively configured to accommodate Wētā FX’s dual witness-camera system used to capture the data required for the film’s Robbie Williams character.

The sequence involved a series of complex camera moves and hand-offs between a Scorpio 45 crane, handheld operation and an open-top London bus. With the complete camera, VFX equipment and cabling weighing approximately 18kg, the system had to remain stable while moving rapidly between very different operating configurations.

Filmed over three nights on a closed Regent Street, the sequence culminated in a large-scale choreographed performance involving around 500 dancers. Multiple sections and takes were precisely stitched together to create the finished continuous sequence.

The project remains one of the most technically challenging and ambitious gimbal sequences we have undertaken.
